Passé tout près de la victoire la veille sur le Nokere Koerse, Alec Segaert a parfaitement rebondi en s’imposant en solitaire sur le GP de Denain 2026. Le coureur de Bahrain Victorious a cette fois résisté jusqu’au bout pour décrocher un succès aussi spectaculaire qu’émotionnel.
La course s’est animée de loin avec une échappée composée de plusieurs outsiders, mais ce sont les secteurs pavés qui ont rapidement fait la sélection. Les crevaisons et incidents ont notamment éliminé certains favoris, dont Arnaud De Lie, piégé par les conditions exigeantes du parcours.
À 48 kilomètres de l’arrivée, la course a basculé lorsque Per Strand Hagenes (Visma-Lease a Bike) a attaqué. Seul Alec Segaert a été capable de suivre, formant un duo de costauds qui a rapidement creusé l’écart sur un peloton fragmenté par les pavés.
Les deux hommes ont parfaitement collaboré, résistant aux tentatives de poursuite menées par des coureurs comme Nils Politt ou Brent Van Moer. Mais dans le final, Hagenes a tenté de faire la différence en accélérant dans le dernier secteur pavé, distançant Segaert.
Le Belge n’a pourtant pas paniqué. Resté à quelques secondes, il a intelligemment temporisé avant de revenir à 2,5 kilomètres de l’arrivée, puis de porter une attaque décisive.
Derrière, le peloton s’est organisé tardivement et a fondu sur l’homme de tête, rappelant cruellement le scénario de la veille à Nokere. Mais cette fois, Segaert a tenu bon, conservant quelques précieuses secondes pour s’imposer en solitaire.
Une victoire de caractère pour le Belge, qui transforme sa frustration en triomphe et confirme son immense potentiel sur les classiques flandriennes.
